About Royal Tunbridge Wells
Royal Tunbridge Wells is located in the Weald of Kent, an area of southern England that is characterized by its rolling hills and wooded valleys. The town sits on the edge of the High Weald, a plateau that extends from Hampshire in the west to Sussex in the east. Tunbridge Wells is about 30 miles (48 km) south of London and 20 miles (32 km) north of Brighton.
The town’s name is derived from the royal springs that were discovered in the area in the 16th century. A chalybeate spring was found on the site of what is now Royal Victoria Place, and a sulphur spring was found at what is now The Pantiles. These springs attracted visitors from all over England, and Tunbridge Wells became a popular spa town.
The main industries in Tunbridge Wells are retail, tourism, and health care. There are a lot of small businesses in the town, as well as some larger chains. It’s only a few miles from Tonbridge and the main shopping areas are the Pantiles and the High Street.
The cost of living in Tunbridge Wells is high, but it’s considered a desirable place to live. The area has good train links to London and excellent schools.
