Yes a second home can be rented out.

If you have a mortgage secured against it you will need to ask your mortgage lender for permission. This is known as a ‘consent to let’.

If this is not granted then you will need to remortgage over to a more suitable type of mortgage that permits letting.

This could be:

• A holiday let mortgage
• A second home mortgage
